Ashley Bowen is a school teacher who has come up with the solution to two problems: teaching math and regulating kids' use of their mobile devices. The solution? Gameify math and put it into an app. Make the gaming app about subjects kids are into which they don't even realilze is math - which musician is making more money? Who's selling more records? Which football player scored more points?
Ashley's final coup is to integrate the app into the lesson plan. Voila! Kids are using their devices in class, absorbed in subjects they are passionate about, and unwittingly learning math!
In this episode of Out to Lunch, Ashley pitches 9 Volt Kids to Peter Ricchiuti and his guests Cherie Melancon Franz from Thinkerella and Libby Fischer from Whetstone Education.
